FAQ

  • What is the maximum group size for TopBike's guided tours?
    Groups are made up of between 4 and 10/11 participants per guide.
  • Do you have a minimum group size for your guided tours?
    Yes, the minimum group size on our guided tours is 4 participants (total number of participants on the tour). The minimum number of participants required to make a booking is 1 participant.
  • What languages are your guided tours conducted in?
    Tours are scheduled in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, French and Italian.
  • Can children take part in your tours?
    Infants under the age of 1 cannot take part in tours. From the age of 1 upwards, children may take part in a tour in the following ways: Children that weigh less than 25kg may sit in a child seat on the back of a parent’s bike; Children that weigh more than 25kg may ride a child extension attached to a parent’s bike; From the age of 9 children that know how to ride a bike may use their own bicycle. Children must always be accompanied by an adult.
  • Are any discounts available for children on your tours?
    Children may join the tour at no extra cost ONLY if they sit in a child seat on the back of their parent's bike. In any other case the charge for child participants is the same as for adults.
  • We are a family with children. Can we join a scheduled tour or do we need to book a private one?
    If all of your children who weigh more than 25 kg are over the age of 10 you can book both. However, a private tour gives you more freedom to customize the stops and itinerary according to your needs. If you have one or more child that weighs more than 25 kg but is younger than 10 years old, you may only book a private tour.
  • Where is the tour meeting and departure point?
    All tours start at our shop in Via Labicana, 49. As part of the booking confirmation you will receive detailed directions to the shop.
  • How far in advance do I need to book a tour?
    Tours can be booked up to 24h in advance but it’s preferable to reserve a few days ahead of the tour date.
  • Our cruise ship docks in Civitavecchia harbour between 7 and 7:30am; will we be able to join your City Center tour starting at 9:30?
    If your boat gets in to Civitavecchia in the morning and you are scheduled to leave that same evening you won’t be able to participate in either our scheduled morning or afternoon tours. The only option is to book a Private tour starting around 10.30 am.
  • Do I need to wear a helmet during the TopBike tours?
    Clients must wear helmets on our tours for insurance purposes.
  • What is your policy on tours in the event of rain?
    In the event of rain at the start of the tour, clients will be asked whether they prefer to join the tour all the same, reschedule or get a full refund.
  • How challenging are TopBike tours?
    Tours which take place within the city of Rome are not challenging. The City Center tour is suitable for everyone; other tours require a minimum level of fitness. The pace is always slow and we stop regularly during the tour. The tours outside Rome require customers to be more experienced riders. Clients must know how to ride a bike for all the tours!
  • What are my responsibilities as a client?
    Guests are responsible for: choosing a tour that corresponds to their abilities, fitness level and state of health; arriving on time for the start of the tour; arriving at the meeting point with clothing and gear suitable to the time of year; respecting the laws and customs of Italy; following environmental guidelines and regulations while on the tour, in accordance with the tour leader's instructions; respecting the rights and privacy of other tour participants. An individual may be asked to leave a tour if the Tour Leader feels that the person's continued participation may prove detrimental to the individual and/or his/her well-being, as well as the safety, enjoyment and well-being of other guests, including the Tour Leader.
  • Is payment required to book a tour?
    Payment is required to confirm the reservation.
  • What is your tour cancellation policy?
    If you have to cancel your reservation, your cancellation fee will be determined in accordance with the policy outlined below. Apart from cancellations due to rain, no exceptions may be made to the policy, even in the event of terrorism, civil unrest or personal emergencies. There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a tour early. In the event of cancellation, the following charges apply:
  • Are bikes insured in case of theft?
    If you join one of our guided tours you are not responsible in the event the bike is stolen. This is the sole responsibility of TopBike Rental & Tours. However, if you rent a bike you are responsible for the bike itself and the hired equipment. In the event of theft you will be asked to refund TopBike in accordance with the wholesale price of the stolen equipment.
  • What time can I collect a bike for rental?
    Our opening hours are: 10.00 - 19.00
  • What is the minimum rental period?
    Our minimum rental period is 1 day.
  • Do you also provide a lock with the bike?
    Yes, an ABUS U-Lock is provided free of charge with every rented bike.
  • How far in advance do I need to book a bike for rental?
    If you just need a bike to go around Rome, a couple of weeks in advance is usually sufficient. If you want to be sure of getting your preferred model/size it’s best to book the bike at least 3 months in advance.
  • Do you have SPD pedals?
    Yes, we have some SPD pedals for mountain bikes and some clip pedals for road bikes. Bear in mind that the names of pedals vary in different parts of the world. If you want to be sure to have the right pedals for your shoes, please bring your own: our mechanic will help you fit them to the bike.
  • Are bikes insured in case of theft?

  • How much does it cost to rent a helmet with the bike?
    A helmet will be provided for you free of charge, with the bike.
  • Do you offer a 24h rental service?
    No, our 1-day rental fee covers rentals which take place from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm on the same day. If you would like, you may pick up the bike the evening before (between 7.30 and 8.00 pm) or return the bike the following morning (between 9.00 and 9.30 am) and pay an overnight rental fee of 5 euros.
  • Is it possible to fit a rack on a mountain bike, speed bike or road bike?
    Yes, we have some TUBUS Fly racks. They can be fitted on our alloy mountain bikes, speed bikes and road bikes. Carbon bikes cannot be fitted with racks. Our trekking bikes already come with a pre-fitted rack.
  • Do you have special rates for longer-term rentals?
    Yes, we do.
  • Is your shop closed on certain days of the year?
    We are closed only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • What is the condition of your used bikes?
    Our second-hand bikes are commonly in an excellent operational condition at the time of offering. These bikes have been subjected to a quick check after each and every use, and to periodic deep checks at set mileage thresholds. Please note however, that as any used bike, they may bear aesthetic imperfections such as scratches.
  • Do you sell any new bikes?
    No, unfortunately we do not sell any new bikes. However, every couple of years we renew our entire fleet, at which point we sell our used bikes. Given the professional maintenance in the course of their use, our bikes are in excellent state at the time of sale.
  • Do you ship?
    At the moment, unfortunately we do not handle shipping; however, we'd be happy to package the bike for you should you be available to arrange your own shipping for the bike.
